Design Graduate Exhibition 2012

Students of Beacon’s BTEC Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design, Interactive Media, and 3D Design took the opportunity to showcase their art work and projects at the Design Graduate Exhibition on 2 November 2012. During the 2-month long preparation for the event, Beacon’s design students decorated Beacon’s premises, designed invitation cards and printed their design portfolio booklets. Event highlights consisted of an award giving ceremony, a short film presentation, a game demo, and a speech by Mr. Dean Gary who is a former graduate of Beacon’s BTEC Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design.

Racial Harmony Day 2012

Students and staff of Beacon celebrated Racial Harmony Day on 23 July 2012. Beacon was honoured to have Ms Denise Phua, MP for Moulmein-Kallang GRC and Adviser to Kampong Glam Grassroots Organisations as the Guest of Honour for the special occasion. Event highlights consisted of mass line dancing, multi-national fashion show, song performances, and ended off with a buffet session. Elderly residents reminisced about their childhood days as they played traditional Asian games such as “Five Stones”, “PickUp Stix”, “Hopscotch” and “Chapteh”. Through this event, Beacon’s international students gained a better understanding of Singapore’s various cultures, traditions, and the importance of racial harmony – the key to keep a country united and strong as a nation. The event was sponsored by Beacon International College and supported by the Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circles (IRCC) and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS).

Crime Prevention Seminar

A Crime Prevention seminar was held on 4th July 2012 at Beacon College, by members from the Singapore National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) and NCPC’s Vice-Chairman, Mr. Eric Low. Over 30 students attended the seminar and had a time of fun and learning.

BBQ at East Coast Park

The Business Communication students (May – June 2012) decided to organise a barbeque at East Coast Park on 22nd June 2012 about which to write their report. They realised there was much more to barbeques than just eating by the time they had booked the pit, bought the food and lit the fire. The weather was hot, but perfect for a day at the beach. Everyone discovered something  new, whether it was a skill or a taste experience, and a great time was had by all. The barbeque provided a good topic for the report.

A Trip to the Night Safari

Students completing business communication in December 2011 chose to organize their assessment event as a visit to the Night Safari. Owing to the stormy weather they had to go in January 2012. It rained briefly on the way to the zoo but the evening turned into a typical, steamy hot,  tropical evening. Everyone had a fascinating time discovering new, strange and interesting animals and everyone was very glad they didn’t have to hold the exceedingly large python at the night animal show. A great time was had by all and everyone was able to write a great report for their Assessment.
