The Advanced Diploma in Entrepreneurship course is designed for students who have completed the Diploma in Entrepreneurship and wish to pursue further education in the same discipline.
The course focuses on:
- Providing an enhanced educational foundation for students motivated to venture into new business or entrepreneurship
- Developing deeper understanding of entrepreneurship and higher level of knowledge, theories and skills relevant & important to entrepreneurship
- Providing opportunities for students to develop a range of managerial skills and techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

Advanced Diploma in Entrepreneurship (Chinese): Course Structure
The Advanced Diploma course comprises nine subject units of study.
The subject units are as follows:Economics
This unit provides a basic foundation in economics. students will be exposed to microeconomic and macroeconomic issues in order to have an understanding of how the economy operates.
Students will examine the economic choices made by consumers, firms and the government, and how these decisions affect the market for a particular good or service. The unit incorporates a study of the theory of demand and supply, and discusses production costs, price determination and supply decisions for individual firms in different market structures.
It will survey the workings of a typical economy. Topics include economic growth, unemployment, inflation and the Keynesian model of the macro economy. Reference will be made to current case studies of global, regional and local issues.
Organisations and Behaviour
This unit provides an introduction to the nature of organisations in relation to management practices. The unit examines the internal nature of organisations from both a theoretical and practical point of view. The unit develops an understanding of the behaviour of people within organisations and the significance of organisational design and characteristics. The unit aims to provide the basis for, and to underpin further study in, specialist areas of business.
Leadership
This unit develops the knowledge and skills needed to work with and lead people. It covers the theory, models and styles of leadership and their application to different situations. The contents include impact of leadership styles, theories and practices of motivating, influencing and persuading others, influence of cultural environment within the organization, differences between leadership and management, leadership power, control and delegation.
Consumer Buying Behaviour
This unit provides students with an understanding of customer buying behaviour. It focuses on the internal and external forces affecting customers' buying decisions in a variety of contexts. It will develop students’ understanding of why consumers make the purchases, what factors influence consumer purchases and the change factors in our society. Topics include stages of the consumer buying process, types of consumer buying behaviour, categories (personal, psychological, social) that affect the consumer buying decision process.
Financial Accounting
Financial accounting provides students with an understanding of the use of financial statements from a decision-making perspective. Students will be introduced to accounting concepts and principles and will develop skills to account for business transactions and prepare financial statements. Students will learn analytical techniques to interpret and evaluate financial information. Ethical issues will also be discussed.
Strategic Entrepreneurship
This unit examines the traits of successful entrepreneurs through analysis of real-life examples and workshops. It equips students with an understanding of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial management from a strategic perspective. Students will learn entrepreneurial strategy, how entrepreneurial firms overcome resource limitations, entrepreneurial action in innovation, market entry mode choices of corporate entrepreneurs, networking and alliances of small entrepreneurial firms with large companies, international entrepreneurship, strategic leadership, and the relationship between entrepreneurship and growth. Through understanding the issues and challenges of strategic entrepreneurship, students will appreciate the different approaches used by entrepreneurs in wealth creation in the current business environment.
Managing a Start-up
Built on the students’ understanding of entrepreneurship, this unit aims to introduce the processes of starting a new business, running a start-up and the relevant management principles and theories.
It will expose students to risks faced by start-up, types of business entity, legal and social responsibilities of a business entity and individual entrepreneur, sources of funding including government incentive scheme, procedures of business registration and physical planning etc.
Management Information Systems
The aim of this unit is to introduce the student to the role and function of management information systems in business operations. It will develop the students’ ability to identify sources of management information and how these can be used in the decision-making process via electronic and paper-based communication. It will require the students to develop practical applications ability and knowledge as well as the ability to recommend how MIS should be used in business.
Research Project
This unit is designed to introduce students to the techniques and methods of research. The unit addresses a variety of research methodologies, including the opportunity to carry out interventionist or action research.
Students will be required to produce a project report based on independent research into an area of professional business practice that interests them and will add to their professional development.
The study should use both primary and secondary sources of information, and should be an exploration of a current major issue in the area of entrepreneurship. The study undertaken should build on knowledge, skills and understanding that have been achieved in other units. Tutor approval should be sought before commencing study.

Lectures/Tutorials
The course is mainly conducted in the classroom via face-to-face learning which encourages student-teacher interaction. Students are encouraged to attend field trips and bazaars organised by the school to encourage experiential learning.
Assessment
This course is assessed by a combination of coursework and exam. Coursework will be assessed throughout the unit and an exam will be at the end of each semester. Coursework involves doing a report, presentation or project work.
Entry Requirements
- Diploma in Entrepreneurship and GCE 'O' Level Chinese
- Any other equivalent qualifications
Certification
Candidates who successfully complete all 9 units of this programme will be presented with a Graduation Certificate awarded by Beacon School of Technology.

This Award takes approximately 540 hours excluding the development and implementation of coursework.

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Synthesis of a wide range of concepts, knowledge and skills essential to entrepreneurs
- Application of supervisory level business & entrepreneurship concepts and theories to practical, realistic work situations
- Understanding of leadership and entrepreneurship attributes
- Utilize technology effectively in acquiring knowledge, and in gathering, organizing and presenting information
