Diploma In Computing: Introduction
The Diploma in Computing is a broad-based and stimulating programme. The purpose of the course is to provide students with the foundation skills and knowledge necessary for entry to a HND in Computing programme.
The course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of computing, mathematics, programming and develop basic skills in communication, team-working, problem solving and applying technology.
Course Structure for Diploma In Computing
Students must complete a total of 8 units to obtain the Diploma in Computing. The units are:
- Problem Solving and Programming I
- Study Skills and Communications I
- Mathematics I
- Discovering Computers
- Problem Solving and Programming II
- Study Skills and Communications II
- Mathematics II
- IT Skills and Applications
Assessment
This Diploma In Computing is assessed by a combination of coursework and exam. Coursework will be assessed throughout the module and exam will be at the end of each semester. Coursework involves doing a report, presentation or project work to develop an application system.
Entry Requirements to Diploma In Computing
- China Senior Secondary Year 3 AND IELTS 5.0 *
- SMU 3 AND IELTS 5.0 *
- GCE ‘A' levels - 2 passes
- ITE Higher NITEC 2.5
- STPM - 2 passes
- Vietnam Grade 12 AND IELTS 5.0 *
- Any other equivalent qualifications
*Those without IELTS 5.0 are required to attend an English Course at a fee.
Certification
Candidates who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Diploma in Computing. Graduates can be admitted to HND in Computing programme run by the School. The HND in computing is awarded by Edexcel International (UK).
Course Schedule
This Diploma In Computing Award takes approximately 360 hours excluding the development and implementation of coursework assignments.
