Diploma in Business Administration (Chinese)
The Diploma in Business Administration is designed to focus on:
- Providing an broad-based and strong business foundation for a range of careers in business and administrative management
- Developing the knowledge and skills of students in the field of business, management and business related disciplines
- Providing opportunities for students to develop a range of skills and techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life
The Diploma course comprises six subject units of study. The subject units are as follows:
Human Resource Management
This unit provides an introduction to the contemporary concepts and practices of Human Resource Management within the Singapore setting. The aim of the unit is to provide an understanding of the personnel function of management through the consideration of systems and frameworks, which create and sustain the employment relationship within the organisation. Major topics include human resource strategy & planning, job analysis, recruitment, appraisal, salary management and training.
Principles of Management
This unit provides students with an insight into the key functions of management and the practical issues which managers of today face. Students are expected to discuss management theories and acquire an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of being a manager in an organisation. Apart from learning about the roles and functions of managers, student will gain an understanding of the skills managers require to manage effectively in a rapidly changing and competitive business environment. Aspects of management such as planning, organising, leading, controlling, international management, business ethics and social responsibility will be covered.
The aim of this unit is to investigate the principles that underpin the marketing process and how they apply in business. It is a broad-based unit providing a general overview of marketing for all students and a foundation for further study in the specialist area of marketing. It will enable students to select, analyse, apply, and evaluate marketing planning models and theories to marketing planning. Upon completion candidates should have the ability to evaluate an organisation’s ability to develop and launch a new product, and present a credible marketing plan.
This unit aims to develop students’ abilities in oral and written skills in a business context. It exposes students to skills in the selection and interpretation of business texts, communication in semi-formal and formal business settings including presentation, meeting, interview, minutes writing and business report writing.
Financial accounting provides students with an understanding of the use of financial statements from a decision-making perspective. Students will be introduced to accounting concepts and principles and will develop skills to account for business transactions and prepare financial statements. Students will learn analytical techniques to interpret and evaluate financial information. Ethical issues will also be discussed.
Principles of Entrepreneurship
This unit examines the basic elements of generating new business ideas. Through various mode of learning (e.g. lectures, online learning, tutor consultation, workshop, site visit and active participation etc) students will get an opportunity to identify, assess and select viable businesses, and then develop preliminary business proposals through a typical entrepreneurship process and field research. The objective is to develop students’ entrepreneurial mindset.
The aim of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of different
organisations, the influence of stakeholders and the relationship between businesses and the local, national and global environments.
Organisations and Behaviour
The aim of this unit is to give learners an understanding of individual and group behaviour in organisations and to examine current theories and their application in managing behaviour in the workplace.
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- To provide an educational foundation for a range of business and management careers in business and
- To provide specialised studies directly relevant to individual vocations and professions in which students are working or intend to seek employment;
- To enable students to make an immediate contribution in employment;
- To provide fleibility, knowledge, skills and motivationas a basis per for career development and as a basis for progression to graduate and postgraduate studies;
- To develop students’ ability in business and finance through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the programme;
- To develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.

A student who has successfully completed all 6 units of this programme will be awarded the Diploma by Beacon International College.
Certificate of Merit Award
A student who has successfully completed a diploma course may be awarded a Certificate of Merit, provided that the following criteria are fulfilled:
- At least one (1) subject unit with a Distinction grade AND
- At least a merit grade using an average mark of the total subject marks in the course
Top student award
A student awarded the Certificate of Merit and has the highest total marks in the intake may be considered for the Top Student Award.
Student should normally satisfy the following minimum academic requirement:
- At least Grade C6 in any three (3) GCE ‘O’ Level subject or equivalent qualifications
- HSK Level 4 or equivalent qualifications
The teaching approach and methods adopted will be according to the requirements of the learning outcomes of each subject unit. These may include:
- Group Work
- Field Trips
- Case Studies
- Role Play and
The course is mainly conducted in the classroom via face-to-face learning which encourages student-teacher interaction. Students are encouraged to attend field trips organised by the school to encourage experiential learning.
In-course assessments only will be conducted. In- course assessments may include quizzes, class tests, classparticipation in question and answer sessions, oral presentation, subject assignments including assignment reports and demonstartions where relevant, valid and appropriate.
This course is assessed by coursework which involves doing a report, presentation or project work.
