English Introductory Short Course

Introduction

The English Introductory Course is designed to meet the following aim:

  • To provide students some insight and exposure to English subject and the ways the subject is taught

Course Syllabus/Content

The course is mapped onto elementary level or lower intermediate level of Beacon’s Certificate in English as A Second Language course.

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  1. Gain an insight of English curriculum  elementary or lower intermediate level
  2. Have a feel of the ways the subject is taught

Entry Requirements

Students should normally satisfy the following minimum academic requirements:

  • English starter level for entry into Elementary level
  • Elementary level for entry into Lower Intermediate level

Class Size

Class size: Maximum 20 pax per class for practical and tutorial lessons, Maximum 30 pax for lecture

Korean Language Basic

Basic 1

Introduction

The Korean Basic Course is designed to provide students with basic communication skills in the Korean language. The course aims to foster the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing with related content.

  • A brief introduction of Han-Geul and Korean culture
  • Greetings and meeting people
  • Korean alphabet writing system and pronunciation
  • Introducing oneself and asking for one’s name
  • Asking the name of things
  • Ordering in a cafeteria
  • Talking about the location of a person and a building
  • Telling the time
  • Numbers Sino numbers and Korean pure numbers

Admission Requirements

As this is a beginner’s course, no previous knowledge of Korean is required.

Basic 2

Introduction

The Korean Basic Course is designed to provide students with basic communication skills in the Korean language. The course aims to foster the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing with related content.

  • Talking about daily routines
  • Talking about past events
  • Expressing negation

  • Completed Basic 1 or equivalent
Basic 3
